Leather

I'd definitely describe myself as a cautious leather trouser wearer.  I'd describe mum as a up-until-now-never-be-seen-dead-in-leather-trousers wearer.  With that in mind, I present to you the cautious person's answer to wearing leather trousers.

But if we're not totally into it, then why bother?  Because, leather trousers are a prime example of an item of clothing that alot of women would say "ooh, no - I love them, but not at my age!"  And I say?  Pffff!  You can wear them at any age, it's just a matter of what you wear them with.....

I love the mixture of textures when dressing.  It is so stylish.  It's also very chic to do the unexpected - so, rather than dressing these leather trousers up, it's more exciting to dress them down.  Here mum is wearing a long navy blue knit from COS.  It is the perfect length and the perfect colour.  I have coupled it with this gorgeous (and incredibly good value) double breasted coat from Topshop.   When you're a cautious leather trouser wearer then it's nice to keep the lines of your outfit simple, so as not to over complicate things with lots of layers and fuss.

This chunky cardigan with these leather trousers is the perfect example of two unlikely bedfellows that actually work so incredibly well.  The cardigan, particularly in the moss green, looks like something that my grandfather would have worn but therein lies its beauty - an old grandad cardi with a foxy pair of leather, skin tight trousers - so wrong and yet so right.

The mixture of suede and leather is perfection and so I was so happy when I came across these boots from & Other Stories.  They're also a great investment because they look just as good with tights and a skirt as they do with trousers.  If you're someone that gets nervous about being cut-off at the ankle, fear not, a pointed toe helps to elongate the leg and is therefore very flattering.

This camel Crombie coat is such a great piece from Gap.  If you tend to wear a lot of neutral and dark colours in the Winter, then a camel coat is a lovely way to break things up a bit.  It looks fantastic with black, navy, cream, fawn and also some of the brighter colours, in particular red.  It is also a colour that will take you into spring which is no bad thing given that the British weather is pretty blummin' temperamental.  Thinking about the weather, although one might consider leather trousers to be more of a wintery thing, to be honest living in England, come Summer, there aren't actually many days when it is too hot to wear leather.  On the  - regular - cool days, throw on a t-shirt and you'll be good to go!
