each to their own

When I first showed mum these overalls she took one look at them and said, “oh my goodness, I don’t think that those are for me, that’s much more something that you would wear”. Anyhow, Mum humoured me and tried them on. If you look at an item of clothing and you don’t like it, then obviously, don’t wear it. BUT, if you find something that you really like but you feel that it’s too hard to pull off, then think again - there are nearly always ways to make an item work for you.

First of all mum put the overalls on with no layers underneath - this didn’t look good. However, the minute that we tried a fitted navy blue turtleneck, a chunky jumper over her shoulder’s and big earrings, it suddenly looked like an outfit that mum would wear. What I am trying to say here is, play around with clothes. Think about what makes you feel most comfortable and try adding an element of that to a piece of clothing or an outfit that takes you out of your comfort zone. Maybe it’s a tailored coat, maybe its a silk scarf or a piece of jewellery, choose something that is very ‘you’ and try it on with something that you wouldn’t usually wear. It helps us to not get stuck in a clothing rut and pushes the evolution of our style on. It’s also more fun - promise!

These overalls are absolutely in my comfort zone, I love anything baggy and oversized! Apart from when I need to go to the loo, then I don’t love them at all - but alas, we must suffer for our fashion.

A denim jacket under a wool coat always looks cool and is definitely something to try at any age. Here, the jacket is a very light denim so stands out, but for a more subtle look you could try a traditional dark denim jacket. Great with navy, camel and charcoal grey coats.

This peacoat is the one that I was wearing in last week’s post. I cannot recommend khaki green more highly. I find it to be as versatile as any of the other neutral coloured coats, if not more so. It provides such a lovely foil to more vibrant colours in one’s outfit.
