A Simple Statement
Mum’s outfit is made by the earrings. The dress is great, and suits her, but what takes the look from a lovely dress to a great outfit is the earrings. As we head into the festive season, it’s worth remembering what impact a piece jewellery can make. A fitted poloneck jumper and a pair of tailored trousers can be transformed into a party worthy outfit by the addition of something fabulous hanging from your ears. Compared to the cost of buying a whole new outfit, it can be a relatively inexpensive hack to creating party worthy attire.
Of course bold earrings do not need to be the sole reserve of an evening outfit, a great pair of earrings for the daytime is also an excellent choice. The cream, resin pair that mum is wearing here would look incredibly chic worn with a white shirt and blue jeans. Sézane have an excellent choice of fun pieces but places like Mango also have some great bits - this pair are fab, as are these from M&S.
If you place a colour on black and white gingham it is always going to look good. The fabric provides a perfect background for other, more vibrant hues - particularly if it is an oversized gingham like the one used for mum’s dress. Here we placed this olive green jumper around her shoulders and waist but the jumper would look great worn over the top of the dress too. As you part ways with your summer dresses for winter, just check that you might not be able to wear them layered up, for the colder months too.
N.B. these black, tassel loafers are SO light. If you generally find that chunky loafers are quite heavy and uncomfortable for your feet then you might want to try these…
The trousers that I am wearing represent the perfect ‘day to night’ bottoms in my opinion. The soft check in wool makes them day appropriate whilst the tailored waist spilling into a soft wide leg provides the perfect evening silhouette - beautiful worn with a silk shirt.
The little navy neck scarf that I am wearing is by a small Scottish brand called Woolkind. They make made to order knitwear accessories. All their merino products are manufactured in a small studio in Edinburgh, and every design can be customised to your colour preferences. So if you are looking for a piece of knitwear to match perfectly with your winter coat say, then this is the place to look! I chose navy blue for my skinny scarf because, hey, I love navy blue and find it extremely versatile but there are so many other options and chances to be more daring! I also have my eye on some of the stripy ones…..
