Flower Power

I’m always looking for pieces on the highstreet that stand out as a bit different. An interesting detail, stylish cut or unusual colour. This twin-set from Boden struck me as different for its pretty embroidery details and matching cardigan and jumper credentials. Obviously both pieces look lovely as separates but as a double act, they’re that much more striking.

Mum is a size 10 and wearing a small in both garments. Ordinarily she would take a medium but for this particular look, I wanted the jumper and cardigan to be neat and fitted. Paired with the slightly cropped jeans and ballet pumps, in my head we were going for a ‘Audrey Hepburn’, 1950s vibe. It’s always good to remember that you don’t need to be a slave to your size. Sometimes it’s nice to size up or size down depending on the look that you are going for.

These jeans are the ‘arch jeans’ by Cos. I am so impressed with the fit of this style. I have done a few personal shopping sessions recently and have seen the style on at least 6 different figures. They have suited everyone. If you are looking for a new pair then these are definitely worth a try.

Also, a quick mention for the brand Hush. This pale blue coat is theirs and I have noticed quite a few other lovely pieces on their site. They have some interesting creatives working with the brand including Cathy Kasterine, contributing fashion editor for Harpers Bazaar UK, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for their collections.

This floral print isn’t necessarily a pattern that I would gravitate to but I loved the very feminine fabric with the more over-sized, trend-led cut of the jacket. There is something very cool about opposites colliding.

To keep my outfit from looking overly ‘pretty’ I chose the brown turtle neck top rather than, say, pale blue or pink. With a voluminous jacket like this one, you could balance it out with slim leg trousers. For this look, however, I wanted to embrace the volume and paired the jacket with wide leg jeans (the ones that mum was wearing last week). With volume on the top and bottom, it is important to show your ankles and/or wrists to avoid looking swamped in fabric. I therefore rolled the jeans and wore tight fitting converse trainers - and pink socks, of course!
