Patchworked together

As I am sure you know by now, we love colour and we love mixing colours, particularly if they are a little unusual. Certain patterns we love too, we tend to gravitate to more geometric designs rather than floral, chintzy ones. So the south coast based brand, Sideline, is right up our street! Interesting colour combinations and geometric, clean patterns are the brand’s USP. It makes me so happy to see!

This denim blue jacket caught my attention immediately. The contrast of crisp white and bright blue is incredibly striking. We have paired it with the orange trousers but you could dial down the look with less of a contrast on the bottom. White jeans for the summer would look beautifully fresh - dark denim would work well too, as would navy, black and beige for a more neutral look.

I think that if you do choose to go for a more dramatic contrast (and this goes for all outifts) it is effective to tie the two colours together with a scarf. This Toast scarf has both the blue from the jacket and the orange hues from the chinos in its pattern. It also prevents the combination from looking too stark.

The chinos are from another lovely British based brand called Beaumont Organic. We have worn this brand before. The quality of the fabrics is beautiful. The organic cotton is noticeably better than many cotton garments that I come across. It is weighty and washes really well. They have an elasticated waist which is always comfortable but there is no unattractive ruching at the waistline which can be a problem. A ‘throw-on-and-go’ kinda trouser!

As you get older, go for the trendier cut in trousers, that way, a simple outfit looks contemporary and cool without any extra effort. For example, you can pick up chinos in almost all high street stores but they are not all designed equally! The voluminous, barrel leg cut of mum’s chinos is cool.

The combination of my jeans, denim shirt and waistcoat is quite a bold look and might not be for everyone but do think about each piece individually too as singularly the items are very versatile. I love these jeans from COS. They are made from a very soft denim so feel almost like a culotte. They will be perfect as the weather warms up - worn with a white t-shirt and/or a cotton shirt - simple but easy and chic.

The waistcoat is the summer equivalent of an interesting jacket in winter. Thrown on over a very plain outfit et voilà! you have yourself a ‘put together’ look. Try a navy and white striped shirt with a pair of indigo denim jeans….and maybe a navy blue mac over the top…? This one from John Lewis own label is great!

Right, that’s all from me for this week. I am sitting in a cafe and I can see that the sun is shining outside so I need to make the most of it! Until next week…..have a lovely weekend. Hx
