Skirting the Issue

If I said that last week’s outfit was very ‘mum’ circa early 90’s, this outfit really is mum! Probably a little bit earlier than that, maybe late 80s? Here we are again wearing over-sized sweatshirts and long cotton skirts. We have the style legacy of Lady Di to thank for that! I, for one, am very pleased as not only do I love this look but it is extremely comfortable and if you have learnt anything from this blog by now, it is that comfort is key to a successful outfit!

The skirt is made from 100% organic cotton by Danish brand Skall Studio. The Danes have cornered the market in effortless cool and Skall Studio is no exception. Their website states that all styles are made in high quality materials and designed to be worn ‘season after season, year after year’.

In terms of the fit, the skirt has an elasticated waist, pockets and is made from a generous amount of fabric. I am wearing it on my hips, mum on her waist. I am 5.6” and mum is nearer 5.8”.

In terms of what else you could wear this skirt with, obviously a white shirt on its own or a white/cream T-shirt would work well. A much darker pink would also look great, as would a soft brown (like the colour of my bumbag). Dark green often goes extremely well with pink too. Another option would be denim - a denim shirt or a t-shirt and denim jacket would look very cool.

The earrings are by Nodo. Founded in 2016 by Sara Bellinato, Nodo is a London based brand with Italian roots - which strikes me as a pretty chic combination! Sara’s jewellery delivers on interest whilst remaining practical for everyday life. These earrings that mum is wearing are fantastic. They have the drama of a statement piece with the wearability of something physically light. For handmade jewellery I would consider Nodo to be very fairly priced.

The Italian word nodo means knot.
The expression ‘fare un nodo’, literally ‘tying a knot’, means keeping in mind something important that should not to be forgotten.
