PLÜMO X GRAHAM ST

PLÜMO X GRAHAM ST

Any of you that have read this blog for any length of time will know, we love blue. I have tried over the years to curb my enthusiasm for using this colour in every post - hahaha - as I know that it is frustrating for those of you that aren’t drawn to this particular hue but, well, the love is strong! I would argue that there is a shade of blue for everyone. I have had messages in the past disagreeing with me but I have to admit, I am yet to be convinced. I often walk down the street thinking to myself…hummm…would you suit blue?… or would you suit blue?…and I have not, as yet, thought - ah hah - you would not suit blue! Welcome to my head people, but there we are. Answers on a postcard….

It doesn’t really matter to be honest, you must wear what makes you feel good. This is utterly paramount. If you like blue wear it and if you don’t, don’t. If you like skinny jeans wear them, if you don’t like skinny jeans, then don’t. There is a general consensus these days that we should wear whatever we believe to suit us and whatever makes us feel good - full stop. If you feel good, you’ll look good. I beleieve that so wholeheartedly.

But back to blue. Mum’s dress is made from such a gorgeous, vibrant tartan. The combination of the (almost) electric blue with the moss green is perfection. Mum and I will always be drawn to an a-line shaped dress, particularly around the festive season when comfort is key….you want to be able to stretch for that extra roast potato without worrying that your waistband is going to pop!

The dress lends itself to our well covered trick of putting a polo neck underneath but maybe experiment with the colour. Obviously navy blue or a dark green would work well but a berry red could look gorgeous too. The same goes for the tights - how about a bright red pair for a change? If you’re bringing out an old dress this season then think about the small changes that you could make to give it a whole new lease of life….

N.B. I should also mention that this dress is made for the most beautful weighty Irish linen which lends an interest to the dress that you only really get from seeing ‘in the flesh’ so to speak.

For a dress and long coat to look really elegant, you want them be the same length. A little longer than the dress/skirt is fine but much shorter is going to look a bit mis-matched. If you’re struggling to find the perfect long coat then you may want to go short instead, something that comes to the waist like a peacoat. This works particularly well if your dress is a-line and the coat is too (or double breasted).

I adore the casual suit that I am wearing. It’s by Plumo’s in-house label Plumo Studio and it’s quickly become my favourite place to look on their site. It is a collection of really well made garments, in the best natural fibres that you can wear day after day, year after year.

The hue of the jacket and trousers is perfect for off-setting so many other colours from neutral tones through to yellows, greens and reds. The suit can obviously be worn separately - both items being equally useful in a hard working capsule wardrobe. The jacket is their take on a ‘workwear jacket’ but the accentuated patch pockets and shawl collar give it that extra interest and elegance that many other versions do not have.

In hindsight I wish that I had shown you the shirt and jacket combo worn with the green cardigan (poking out of my bag). It would look great over the shirt and under the jacket with one or two buttons done up so that you get the flash of green against the crisp white and grey stripes. Chef’s kiss!

N.B. if you are keen to be able to always wear the jacket and trousers as a pair then make sure that you don’t wear one part a lot more than the other as it will start to fade and then the suit won’t match!
