Perky Pink Fairisle

Perky Pink Fairisle

These are the trousers that I was wearing in last week’s post. Hopefully you’ll agree that they look quite different with a top tucked into them. Worn like this, they are definitely more of a ‘statement trouser’ than when worn under a shirt and jumper, perfectly demonstrating that a stylised trouser can be just as versatile as a pair of jeans. It is so easy to fall back on a pair of jeans because they are ‘easy’ but actually, something a bit more exciting can be just as straight forward and comfortable but may take a little more initial effort looking for what feels right for you.

I have NOTHING against jeans I should add, I live in jeans but it’s about pushing your own boundaries sometimes so that you look and feel contemporary, and looking and feeling contemporary doesn’t have to be laborious and uncomfortable.

Don’t let it scare you either. I was chatting to a friend in the playground yesterday. She was saying how she often sees things on other people that she loves but immediately thinks ‘that looks great on her, but I couldn’t pull that off’ - STOP I say! There is absolutely no reason why you can’t make something that you love, work for you. Sometimes it’s just about a little bit of reassurance. Don’t forget that I am always at the end of an email, your resident agony aunt waiting to solve your sartorial quandaries!

Sorry, I’ve gone off at a bit of a tangent. Pushing oneself sartorially is on my mind, what with the conversation in the playground yesterday and buying new glasses with mum today, I’ve been thinking a lot about going for the bolder choice. With the glasses, I have encouraged (mum would say bullied) her into a much bolder pair than she would naturally gravitate to……watch this space!

This is the coat that I have worn in two of our previous posts, proving just how versatile it is, both in style and colour. The khaki green is such a wonderful foil to other more punchy, vibrant colours.

The knitted tank top is back and if you can find one in fairisle, then you’re winning the sartorial game. A stripy shirt, like this pink and white one, looks fantastic under a fairisle knit. You might think that it would be too busy as a combination but actually it works so, so well. If you don’t like this idea though, a plain shirt or a turtleneck would look great too.

The cardigan has also experienced a huge renaissance. Available in a myriad of colours, what makes for a striking combination is paring your cardi with a turtleneck in either exactly the same colour, or tones of. I’ve chosen pink as it’s such a happy colour and one which has been splashed all over the catwalks. Valentino’s AW22 show was solely in pink and black.  Now there’s commitment to a theme!
