sock it to 'em
I’m writing this on a particularly miserable April day. We’ve just taken my daughters out to play football and it was freezing! Next week we’re hoping to finally be shedding the wool coat and untying the scarf, getting back to business as usual for April but until then, layers are key. When layering a jacket under a coat, it can help to choose similar shapes. Here, both mum’s layers are a rounded, cocoon shape whereas mine are boxy and straight. As mentioned many times before, remember to choose colours from the same colour palette, so off white and oatmeal for mum and pale blue and denim for me. Of course, you don’t need to stick to this rule, I only mention in case it helps.
Whilst it’s still cooler, and baring an ankle isn’t very appealing, wearing socks that are the same colour as your cotton chinos can be an effective way of extending their life. This is the more subtle option, obviously you could take the bolder path and throw a completely different colour into the mix like I have done here! It is also a great way of livening up an otherwise more neutral ‘safe’ outfit.
This pendant is by a small but mighty jewellery brand called Little by Little. Georgie, its founder, has a background in food and food styling. Each piece is inspired by the shapes that we find in the natural world with particular focus on the organic geometry of fruits - slices of orange or the jewelled centre of a pomegranate. Little by Little work alongside Luminary bakeries, a social enterprise supporting disadvantaged women, helping them to gain the skills needed to enter the workplace. A percentage of all jewellery sales is donated to their incredible work.
