all tied up

all tied up

Sometimes, when it comes to clothes and fashion, we become so inhibited by what we believe is expected of us, we stop just going for it! I’ve said it before but there really is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ when it comes to dressing. What looks good is completely subjective. Of course there are certain styles and ways of dressing that we are going to identify with more than others and this is why blogs like this one exist. If you know how you want to dress but you don’t know how to achieve it, it can be extremely frustrating and stylists like me are here to help with this problem. The way that we dress is very closely tied up with our identity and how we wish to be perceived by the world. For this reason it is important. It is OUR identity though, OUR personality and OUR choice. So if you love something GO FOR IT. Wear what makes you feel good, that is the best advice that I can give.

I am wearing the little kantha bomber jacket that mum was wearing a couple of posts ago. It’s an investment piece so I wanted to show its versatility by also wearing it. I have paired the jacket with this A-line denim skirt which we have also worn before. Mum wore it here last summer and COS have reproduced it this year. We both agree that it is the most flattering denim skirt. Its longer length and a-line shape create a gorgeous silhouette. Mum and I both own it and find it so useful for dressing up for the evening or down for the daytime. It’s slightly longer length than most makes such a difference in terms of how chic it looks.

This cotton canvas jacket that mum is wearing is also an investment piece. But as you can see, it can be worn tied up (which looks extremely elegant), or open and straight in a more casual way. I am also wearing it here. In my opinion, a great jacket is always worth the investment. It is the simplest and easiest way of elevating an outfit. Throw on and go!

I also wanted to mention the shoes that mum is wearing. We both agreed that to look at, they would be uncomfortable but they’re not! The woven leather is extremely forgiving as it bends and slides with your movement, rather than rubbing. I absolutely love them- a hybrid of a shoe and a sandal. Perfect with trousers or skirts.
