I think that this week’s outfits pretty much speak for themselves. As we move into Summer the embroidered clothes hit the shops and it always makes me happy. There is something so quintessentially ‘holiday’ about this style of clothing. The top and trousers that mum is wearing are from Zara, as is my waistcoat. For high street pieces at an accessible price point they are very good. Mum was between sizes in the trousers so we went for the slightly bigger fit. For everyday wearing mum wanted a bit more coverage than this top offers so we added the cream t-shirt. On holiday, she would wear it on its own.

The dress that I am wearing is from a relatively new brand called Albaray and is extremely good quality for the price. It is made from a weighty (100%) linen and is a great length - I am 5.6”. When high street brands don’t scrimp on the length it really does make such a difference. This dress would obviously be perfect worn during the day with brown leather sandals like these, or some chunky pearl earrings and a cream jacket for the evening with a pair of wedge espadrilles.

More importantly, what I do want to talk to you about this week is Summer event dressing. I am so sorry because I have promised some of you a whole post on this and as yet I have failed to do so but what I have done is compile an edit of 24 dresses that I would consider to be perfect to wear to a wedding or a party. Most can be dressed up or down which I consider to be important when you’re buying a piece for a special occasion. Hopefully, if you are on the look out for something, this edit will give you some ideas. It may be that there isn’t one specific dress that catches your eye but it may help you to think differently about items that you already have in your wardrobe, or you find yourself introduced to a new brand.

Also, as mentioned in the newsletter, I wanted to share with you an event that is going on at the moment. It is called The Daily Dress Edit and is curated by Isabel Spearman. If you access to London, it is a 2 week one-off pop up shop in Battersea where you can go and try on (and order should you be so inclined) nearly 100 different dresses from 50 different brands spanning a wide range of price points (starting at £89 but most being around £200). This year there is a huge emphasis on sustainability and with this in mind, Isabel and 8 of the larger brands have created a short run of limited edition dresses made from dead stock (fabric that would otherwise be wasted).

Isabel invited me on Monday and I was overwhelmed by the choice! If you are on the lookout for a special dress then you need go no further, Isabel has done all the hard work for you! The pop up runs from 16th-26th May so if you’re interested sign up here for an appointment… there are only a few slots left so be quick!
