Out of the Blue

Out of the Blue

The colour combination of this coat is wonderful. If you’re someone that wears a lot of earthy tones then it would be such a versatile piece in your wardrobe, pulling together many an outfit. It’s also one of those clothing items that makes an outfit out of not very much, by that I mean that you could be wearing a very simple pair of trousers and a jumper but throw on this coat and voila! Something quite special.

The cashmere jumper that mum is wearing is by M&S. I think that their cashmere is generally very good. The problem is that it’s sometimes very difficult to find good colours. This jumper is a great colour. The khaki green is simple and tasteful and the cashmere itself is super soft. Unless you’re keen on a very snug fit then I would size up at least one size, maybe two. Mum is usually a 10 in M&S and she is wearing a 12 here.

These loafers are fantastic shoes. The leather is like butter. No breaking in required which is pretty impressive for a leather shoe. They are also a very elegant shape which I don’t always find high street shoes to be. Mint Velvet are now doing them in various different colourways too. These are delicate shoes so would look as good with trousers as they would skirts and dresses.

This is my all time favourite colour to wear. I can’t think of a complexion that sky blue would not suit. I also love it when opposites collide. Here, the summery colour meets a traditionally wintery fabric (needlecord) making for a striking union and one that lends itself to trans-seasonal dressing- wear with a turtle neck in winter (a stripy one would look excellent) and on its own in the summer (or with a t-shirt).

Toast are known for this style of oversized shirt dress. With the buttons down the front, it is a shape that suits all body types in my opinion. I mention the button down front because if you have a large bust then it can be flattering to open up the fabric at your neckline.

I’m wearing socks and trainers here, but I realise that that is not for everyone - and a bit chilly now - so a pair of charcoal grey tights would work with a black loafer or knee high boots in black or dark brown. If you do choose to wear a heavier colour below the hemline then I would be tempted to bring a darker colour around the neck or shoulders. The black and white tweed jacket that I am wearing, for example, would do the trick as would a darker layering piece (maybe a cardigan?). As mentioned in the last post, a stylish outfit is all about balance.
