Collar & Cuffs

Think about the use of colour when you’re putting an outfit together. The outfits here are not made by the individual pieces but by the juxtaposition of colour and pattern. For example, I love the combination of the turmeric trousers with the pop of red around my neck. The bold stripe of my jumper is anchored by the dark navy of the coat, preventing the overall outfit from looking too ‘whacky’. Of course, if you wanted to dial it down, choosing a more neutral neck tie would do the trick. Playing around with colour and pattern is an effective way of creating an interesting look without buying new clothes or necessarily breaking the bank.
Another simple way of elevating an outfit is to wear a bold blouse under an otherwise tonal look. This blouse by Kate Barton is super striking with its frilled gingham collar and cuffs. They’re also fun and playful. If you’re someone who ordinarily does not wear a lot of pattern then this is a nice trick to inject some pattern without it being overwhelming.
The shopping bag was bought on a market in the South of France. My happy place! I love a bag that encompasses lots of colour as they often serve as an ‘outfit completer’ - that ‘je ne sais quoi’!
I absolutely love a navy ‘pea coat’ style jacket for winter. If you have the budget then I would highly recommend this one by TOAST. It’s so perfectly classic in its design. However, should your budget not stretch to this one, here are some alternatives to consider… Hush, Folk, & Other Stories, H&M and Community Clothing.
