Following a Pattern

I cannot recommend this alpaca gilet enough. It offers so much warmth and it looks good. There are many, many gilets on the market but not all are created equal. It’s an item of clothing that can very easily slip into ‘practical gear’ which is fine if you are in fact about to go and muck out the horses but not so much if you’re meeting a friend for lunch. This one from L’Envers can be thrown over so many different outfits, adding interest to the look but perhaps more importantly, adding warmth on a cold day without too much bulk. Mum is a UK10 and is wearing a size small. She could have chosen the medium too but as it is made from quite a thick material, I wouldn’t recommend sizing up more than that.
The shirt that you can see here poking out from under the jumper is the shirt that I wore in ‘Autumn Leaves’. I started this blog on the premise that age doesn’t matter when it comes to style and this shirt is a case in point. Made by the cool, East London brand You Must Create, I love it and so does mum. I don’t wear a lot of patterned fabrics, simply because I don’t often come across patterns that I like, so I jumped at this shirt. If you can find a patterned shirt that encompasses many of the colours that you love, and often wear then grab it! It will become a main stay in your wardrobe for tying different pieces together.
I’m on a roll this week because having said that I don’t often find pattern that I like, I saw this multi striped jumper in & Other Stories and it was love at first sight! Again, it is made up of so many colours that I love to wear. The subtle combination of the muted, earthy tones combined with the mohair fabric is a combination that I couldn’t resist. Annoyingly I didn’t get a picture of me wearing the jumper but if you are interested, the photos on the brand’s website are very good and will help you understand its’ shape (linked below).
This little green jacket by Arket is fab. I love a jacket made from a double face fabric as they tend to age well. I own another jacket made from this material which is three years old and still looks brand new. This Arket one is cropped so it lends itself to being worn with high waisted trousers and skirts, as well as waisted dresses.
There are two more points that I would like to make before I leave you to your weekend. Firstly, this bag. It is from Zara and ordinarily I don’t usually shop there. However, I was going to a wedding a few weeks ago and I needed a suitable bag. When I was looking online this one popped up and I was drawn to how beautiful it is. After much deliberation I decided to buy it, it is a classic, timeless style that I will have for special occasions for many years to come.
Lastly, mum’s trousers. I want to point out the detail on the hem. Where there is some ruching, it is made by a button that can be fastened, depending on whether you would like the trousers tapered at the bottom or not. I love details like this because it adds interest but also versatility. The pants are made from a lovely soft linen/cotton blend that drapes rather than hangs, adding an elegance to an otherwise casual pair of trousers.
The look of a mother whose daughter is about to come for her hair….! Hahaha.
