A barrel of laughs

This week, we are presenting two colour combinations that I love; black with tones of beige and navy with olive green. Although I generally wear navy blue more than black, I think that the latter works much better as a foil to cream, beige and oatmeal. However, olive green is best matched with dark navy blue.

I have said this many times before but layering similar tones in different textures is an extremely effective way of building a stylish outfit. My cream blouse with the soft oatmeal coat and camel mohair jumper is a case in point.

Another easy style hack to looking chic is wearing a scarf that is exactly the same colour as your coat. Simple and effective. Also, if you have a cardigan in your wardrobe that could do with a refresh, try finding a striped t-shirt that matches perfectly in colour. Mum’s cardigan is from Arket and the long-sleeved top is from COS.

N.B. my cream blouse is wonderful. Sometimes it is worth spending more on something simple and this would be a good example of that. The cut is flattering and it hangs really well. I should mention that it is quite see-through so you would either need to wear a pretty bra or a camisole underneath.

In terms of footwear, don’t be afraid to pair a fine sock with your ballet pumps, or shoes that you tend to wear with bare ankles. It adds a bit of interest to a look and can extend the life of your favourite shoes.

If you’re wearing black jeans, as I am here, a black ankle boot will help elongate the leg!

And that’s it from me for this week…. just a list of little tips which I hope that you will find useful. Thank you for your lovely messages after last week’s post - I am feeling much better now….just in time for half term! Ha!
