Think about ways in which you could use the colours that already exist in your wardrobe to maximum effect. Build a tonal outfit from hues within the same wheel house but throw in a colour that is complimentary but unexpected. Red is an excellent ‘go to’ as it tends to work with most other colours. Maybe start with a sock, as mum has done here. The trick to keeping it chic is restraint. If you’ve chosen a coloured sock, don’t feel the need to tie the colour in anywhere else, the cool lies in the ‘pop’.

I love this double faced wool jacket from ARKET. I don’t often feature clothes that aren’t available to buy but this is a jacket that I have had for a few years now. It just slots into so many different outfits. If you don’t already have an equivalent, it’s worth trying to find your version of my jacket. I think of it as a wardrobe elevator. A piece that is easy to throw on and immediately lifts the outfit into something more put together and cool. Double faced wool is worth looking out for as it ages very well. My jacket still looks brand new and it’s three years old.

The white shirt is in fact denim which I think is cool. It hangs on the body beautifully and it doesn’t crease like other cotton shirts. I would recommended it as a wardrobe staple. It’s worth noting though that it would be too bulky to tuck in.
