Purple Haze

I’m really enjoying wearing a skirt at the moment. When you’re someone who usually wears trousers, it can be tricky to find skirts with the right aesthetic vibe. They’re often too frilly, floral or flouncy! For me, the answer is finding one that slots into my wardrobe as a direct alternative to trousers. The one that I am wearing here is a perfect example. The jumper, belt, coat and shoes combo would work just as well with a pair of tailored trousers as it does with this skirt.
The skirt is cut beautifully. It has a tulip shape that holds its structure well. I adore the dropped waist (which we have seen a resurgence of on the catwalks) that lends a cool, casual vibe to the overall look. It works particularly well with the matching trench coat. I like the juxtaposition of the slightly ‘prim’ two-piece coupled with the modern cut and fabric.
Brown has come back with a vengeance so if this is your hue, now is the time to pounce! The temptation is to pair it with other earthy tones which obviously looks lovely but I also enjoy seeing brown with bright red, all shades of blue and buttery soft yellow. And lilac!
TIP. If you’re wearing a round neck jumper, wear a white t-shirt underneath for a modern edge. This long-sleeved one from COS is lovely (link below). Beautiful quality and fitted without being tight.
This white denim shirt is fab. I have an almost identical one in blue denim which I find incredibly useful, and I think that this one would be very useful too. Because it is denim rather than a thinner material like poplin, it hangs beautifully. It’s probably not a shirt suitable for tucking in but for wearing over trousers, it’s perfect.
That leads me nicely on to mum’s trousers. They are by Bon Shoppe which we have worn before. They have managed to craft a pull on trouser that is cut so beautfully that to look at, you would never anticipate the elasticated waist. They are so flattering! The ultimate pull-on-and-go pant. This particular pair are from the lovely multi brand platform Mama Owl. With an emphasis on beautifully designed, natural and organic clothing, often sourced from Europe, I would highly recommend having a browse of their collections for pieces that you might not see elsewhere.
I’m sorry that this jacket that mum is wearing is not available to buy. As a general rule I like to feature pieces that are available but this time, the jacket worked so well I couldn’t resist using it! It’s made from a double-faced wool and I have had it for a couple of years now. The colour and shape seem to go with everything so if you ever see anything similar, I would recommend investing! I have had a look myself but I can’t find anything comparable at the moment but promise to keep my eyes peeled….! And of course, maybe you already have something suitable in your wardrobe….
