Keeping in check

Keeping in check

Let’s talk about mum’s belt situation. Here, she is wearing a tan belt which closely matches the colour of the trousers. By doing so, it serves to elongate her legs. If you scroll down, you will see that mum was originally wearing a chocolate brown belt. Interestingly, I love the dark brown belt worn with the brown rain mac because it ties in the brown suede boots creating a nice balance between belt, boots and coat. However, without the coat, I believe the brown belt stands out too much.

Now it goes without saying that an outfit is extremely rarely analysed in this way but as we have a direct comparison here, I thought that it was interesting to make the point. Both outfits are essentially lovely but it’s interesting to note that a small change can make a big difference to proportions.

We are moving into Spring here in the UK so mum’s outfit will be a bit warm before too long (hurrah)! A white t-shirt under the cardigan (it would be tied in by the white buttons) and some plimsoles or chocolate brown sandals would look wonderful. The trousers are made from a light-weight poplin so are perfect for Spring. I should also note that they have a button at the hem so you can cleverly alter the shape of the leg. The button is done up here.

Mum and I would both like to wear more dresses but struggle to find ones that fit the bill. We don’t want anything too frilly, floral or skimpy. I have found that a clever way to achieve the look when an actual dress alludes me is a matching shirt and skirt. Sometimes a two-piece is easier to find - a matching top to trousers or shorts works well too. I really like this shirt and this skirt by H&M. Also this blouse and skirt by Albaray.

This ia a set by Toast and as you can imagine, I love the two shades of blue in the grid pattern. It’s feminine without being too girly. Both pieces can be worn separately which I really like too. Just make sure that they both get worn in equal measure otherwise over time you will find that one will fade more than the other and they’ll stop matching!

Right, I'm off to have a cup of tea in the garden and enjoy the first of the Spring sunshine….I hope that you find the time to do the same too. Until next week! Hx
