Two beautifully coloured jumpers. A red jumper is always a good one to have in your wardrobe as the right shade for your complexion is as good as a facelift! I used to think that red didn’t suit me but then I found the right tone. All colours exist on a spectrum and so if you love a particular colour, it’s normally possible to find the specific hue for you. Mum looks great in yellow, but a more soft, eggy yellow rather than a sharp, acidic one. Yellow can be a trickier one to get right but when you do, it’s stunning. Yellow is also a fantastic colour for lifting a winter outfit. Most of us end up in more navy, black, grey and brown shades in the colder months and yellow - and red - look wonderful with all of them.

Stripes are a brilliant backdrop to colour. A bold stripe, like the shirt that I am wearing here, worn against the bright red creates fantastic drama. The soft ticking stripe of mum’s shirt with the vivid yellow jumper is a lovely, more subtle, contrast.

We adore this ticking stripe shirt. The fitted, yet slightly boxy shape coupled with the high, rounded collar is magic. What finishes the look off is the matching neck scarf - such a fantastic touch. The shirt tucks beautifully into the Inigo blue jeans. Plumo Studio have nailed the shape of these trousers. If you are keen to dip your toe into the barrel leg shape then these are the jeans for you. They possess a flattering curve to the leg without being too accentuated. The high waist and the full length means that they are a perfect ‘throw-on-and-go’ jean that still looks smart.

If you’re after a classic, cable knit jumper then look no further! This one is the perfect mix of roomy but not too roomy. It’s big enough to fit a shirt or fine turtle neck underneath but not so much so that it’s unflattering. It’s 100% wool but it’s not itchy! I am a UK8/10 and I am wearing a size 8.

My jeans are the same style as mum’s but in a washed black. Interestingly, as I am two inches shorter, they look more wide legged on me. I am 5.6” and mum is 5.8”.

This mole coloured, wool felted coat cleverly straddles the line between casual and smart. In my opinion it looks as appropriate for a walk in the park as it would for a trip to the theatre. The shape is laid back but chic. You could fit all the jumpers underneath but it would look lovely over a silky dress too.

My dark grey wool jacket is a take on the very over-sized blazers that are popular at the moment (mum wore them the first time around)! I imagine it is the sort of look that you either love or you hate. I’m sure it will come as no surprise to you all that I love it - but as you know, I love to be swathed in lots of fabric! For those of you that prefer a more fitted look, then it may not be for you, a style like this one might be more up your street.

Before I leave you to the rest of your day, can we please take a moment to appreciate how beautiful this brocade, kimono jacket is! It’s a real show stopper. Fabulous worn with jeans but it would also be perfect dressed up for the festive season worn with tailored trousers and a gold ballet flat with fabulous gold earrings. If you’re like us and you like to keep things a bit low key, even when dressed up, then this jacket would be a good one for you. - hurrah!

NB. It only comes in one size and it is cut over-sized which is worth bearing in mind if you are petite.
