The fabric of mum’s dress is a particularly lovely print and colour combination. It is quite a bold ikat pattern but coupled with the simple style, it feels pretty restrained in its overall look. If you’re not someone who usually gravitates towards print but is keen to try, maybe choose a classic silhouette to start with. That way you’re not pulling yourself out of your comfort zone in all directions.

The brand is Daydress, they stock a large selection of choice in beautiful shapes and fabrics so if you have a special event this summer, it would be worth checking them out. I also love that the dresses can be worn in a smart or casual way. With this particular dress, for a wedding for example, you could pick out one of the colours from the print for a hat or you could wear a little cream jacket with a matching cream pillbox. For the daytime, some plimsoles and a straw bag would be perfect.

The quality of mum’s dress is lovely, as is the quality of my dress from Aligne. If you are not aware of this brand then I would recommend checking them out. This stripy dress is made from a heavy denim so it hangs really beautifully. Aligne design simple collections which should slot into your wardrobe quite seamlessly. I particularly love these high waisted jeans which have just been restocked. I would say that their sizing is on the bigger side so if you’re between sizes, probably size down.

NB. their sale has just begun. If you’re into gingham, these are fab!

The tangerine colour of my tank top is delicious but for a more subtle look, a navy blue or pale blue knit would work just as well. Also, notice how the dark denim jacket subdues the overall look into something more paired back. It’s worth remembering that jackets often do this. A dark denim or navy blue can be useful in this regard, as can a cream one like this or this.

Of course you may not be interested in toning down your outfit AT ALL, in which case these earrings would be fab OR these sunglasses!

Also, whilst it’s in my head, I should talk about the sleeve situation. If you’re not keen on sleeveless tops then a short/long sleeved jumper would also look good, as would a cardigan. What sadly doesn’t work very well with this particular dress is a t-shirt or shirt underneath. This is because the arm holes of the dress cut in (towards the neck) so you end up with two seams, one for the arm hole of the dress, and one seam on the shoulder of the t-shirt/shirt. Here is the dress without a top over it so that you can see what I mean….

Hope that makes sense?!
