Mum’s trousers and t-shirt are by a new brand to us, Californian label Le Bon Shoppe. The cotton is excellent quality, the sort that feels like it’s from a bygone era. The trousers are cut in such a clever way that despite having an elasticated waist, they hang beautifully creating a very flattering silhouette. The t-shirt is the perfect example of spending a bit more and getting something that is noticeably better than a bog standard t-shirt. The fabric is heavy and hangs very well, the cut-away sleeves are flattering on the arms and the slightly boxy shape and the subtly washed out colour keeps it cool. As you get older, I think that it becomes more important to invest in the better designed brands so that ‘just’ a t-shirt and trousers doesn’t look like just a t-shirt and trousers.

As a bonus, these trousers could definitely be worn in summer and in winter. The weight of the fabric is such that they would work extremely well with a chunky knit jumper and wool coat. A dark green sock (or coloured one if you want to be a bit more adventurous) and a loafer would look great, as would an ankle boot.

You could also extend the life of my jumpsuit by wearing a fine knit polo neck underneath it, a cardigan and a short wool coat, maybe a peacoat. Finish the look off with trainers.

If you’ve been part of our Graham St community for a while, you will know that we love a good jacket. Not only are they practical but a jacket is such an easy way of elevating an outfit. Take this cream one - It is simple but it fits very well and the dark buttons make it. The cream lifts the slightly ‘muddy’ colours of the t-shirt and trousers, creating an interesting contrast. This slightly more budget friendly one would also work very well.

My jacket is a take on the style of the moment, the ‘barn jacket’ - if you want to know more about this style, here is a link to the oracle that is Vogue. My version is by the Spanish brand, Indi & Cole. It has actually been designed to wear more neat but I am wearing an XL for a relaxed, over-sized fit. The colour is a washed out sand which I haven’t worn before but which I have found to be extremely useful as it goes with everything. It really has become my throw-on-and-go jacket of choice.

I should take this moment to reiterate that what mum and I wear has nothing to do with our ages and everything to do with our own personal taste and style. Hopefully you wouldn’t, but just in case, please don’t think that you can’t wear what I am wearing because you are not my age and vice versa….it is all about taste and of course, what makes you feel good!
