GENEVIEVE SWEENEY X GRAHAM ST.

GENEVIEVE SWEENEY X GRAHAM ST.

The subtle flecks of colour in Genevieve Sweeney’s jumpers are perfection. I adore points of interest in clothing that are subtle yet striking. A point of difference that makes the garment stand out without affecting its versatility is something to look out for.

I also love the ribbing detail under the arm on these jumpers. I think that unexpected details is what we look for from small, independent designers. We want to see that careful consideration. They’re also so soft, no itchiness here!

In terms of sizing, I am a UK8/10 and I am wearing a medium.

For those of you that have followed us for a while, you will know that we love a good cardigan. I’m particularly fond of a cardigan tucked into high waisted trousers. These trousers are a great pair from Sessùn. The quality and cut are excellent. It’s worth noting that they come up very long. Mum is just under 5.8” and she is wearing heels to stop them pooling on the floor. For those of you on the petite side, you would need to have them tailored I think, or take them up yourself, depending on your skill set!

I adore Genevieve Sweeney’s choice of buttons. Buttons are a funny thing, you often don’t notice them until you do! Sometimes you can’t quite put your finger on why something doesn’t work until you realise, the buttons are wrong! Great buttons - or the right buttons - can hugely elevate a piece of clothing. It can be worth changing them to give an old piece new life.

Genevieve’s are made by Courtney & Co, the last remaining factory to produce buttons in the UK. They are custom dyed with eco friendly dyes to the perfect hue. This particular cardigan has the most beautiful champagne coloured ones which pick up the yellowy hue of the trousers perfectly.

This lilac colour makes me smile and hope that Spring is around the corner! If you look closely (or here), it has flecks of lavender woven into the yarn which adds a depth of colour that matches perfectly with the beautiful little lilac buttons. Knitwear in happy, joyful colours is the way forward for Spring….or anytime of year to be honest!

Often people think that sticking to neutral hues in knitwear is the most sensible decision in terms of maximising versatility. I would argue that simple, well fitting basics like trousers and shirts can be plain and colour can be introduced through knitwear. A smashing colour worn against the face is as good for your complexion as a facelift! Now there’s a thought….
