a bolt from the blue

Camel and beige tones go so well with vibrant colours. I have had a lot of messages saying that you are trying to experiment more with colour. I LOVE this. It’s so easy to slip into a palette of neutral hues when life gets busy and I totally get it. In fact, as a formula it’s a good one. You can pretty much guarantee that the clothes in your wardrobe will go together and that your outfits will work. However, if you find the time to give a bit of thought to colour, I promise you, you won’t regret it.

One can achieve a very subtle look still. There can be a tendency to associate colourful wardrobes with loud outfits. It is very possible to inject brightness into an otherwise paired back aesthetic. The outfits that mum and I are wearing are a case in point. Both outfits incorporate vibrant cobalt blue but the rest of our clothes are neutral. The blue packs a punch but our overall look is restrained.

If you swapped the blue for pillar box red or pungent orange, the outfits would still work. In fact, bright pink or vibrant green would look great too.

The blouse that I am wearing is by another lovely sustainable brand called Woven London. Woven works exclusively with the weaving cooperatives WomenWeave and Karghewale based on the banks of the River Narmada in the town of Maheshwar, India‎.

WomenWeave and Karghewale have supported the role of women in handloom weaving since its inception in 2002, working towards making handloom a profitable, fulfilling, sustainable and dignified income-earning activity, particularly for women in rural areas of India and keeping alive the traditional craft.

The blouse that I am wearing has a sweet ruffled collar and is made from the lightest handloom cotton making it a perfect blouse for the warmer months. It would be an ideal weight for wearing on a summer’s evening outside. Oh wouldn’t that be nice. Roll on Spring……
