If you find yourself struggling to make your wardrobe work, the first section to reconsider is your trousers. If you get this area right, then the rest will fall into place. Whatever your ‘vibe’ is, make sure that the trousers reflect this. So if you like a relaxed, cool aesthetic then find a pair that are maybe a bit looser, worn a bit lower and cropped shorter on the leg. If you like a neater look, then a high waisted, cigarette pant might suit you better. Either way, once your trousers are right, your tops and jackets will work and your outfits will look suitably ‘you’. If you’re contemplating your wardrobe and thinking, none of my trousers are quite right then you might want to think about selling them and using the money to buy one or two pairs that you really love.

The other area of your wardrobe to give proper consideration to are your shoes. You can own the greatest outfits in the world but if you don’t have the right shoes (and comfy ones!) then you’ll never wear them. For winter, a pair of trainers, a loafer or ballet pump (that would be suitable for the evening as well) and an ankle (or knee high) boot would have you covered in my opinion. Obviously you don’t need to be limited to these but if you are trying to keep your wardrobe to a minimum (as I know many of us are) then this is the footwear that I would suggest.

If you’ve followed Graham St for any length of time then you will know that we love a jacket. Seasalt have delivered on this front this season. Our last post show-cased a couple of goodies and this week we have two more!

When looking to put together an outfit with a patterned jacket, I would suggest picking a colour from the pattern that is recessive, rather than dominant. By doing so, you will create a more subtle overall look. For example the jacket that mum is wearing here, picking out the more obvious pink/peachy hues would work but for a more paired back, restrained look, choosing the dark green from the pattern works better.

Socks! Many of you have asked me where I buy my socks from. Arket and Uniqlo have a great selection. Otherwise, I always have one eye on the socks when I am out and about shopping. Cos, Zara and & Other Stories often have a pair winking at me by the tills. If, however, you are looking to set out on your colourful sock journey then look no further! Seasalt have a ‘starter pack’ of 7 gorgeous colours. Ther’re really soft too.

Socks are a fun, affordable way to add a point of interest to an otherwise simple outfit. Here, I am wearing a plain navy blue cardigan and trousers. The socks break things up perfectly whilst tying in my bag and complimenting my taupe jacket.

Lastly - a gilet. A fantastically useful piece of clothing. Worn, as I have here, over a lightweight jacket or conversely worn under a wool coat in winter for extra warmth. Gilet’s also create an extra layer which never fails to look chic. The one that I am wearing is from the menswear department in Arket. Never be afraid to look at the menswear for extra choice. This men’s gilet from Seasalt is fab too!
